The Traffic Exchange Redundancy Factor!

There is one thing that makes using Traffic Exchanges’ a total bore. Redundancy! What I am calling redundancy is the viewing of the same page or domain over and over again. And, not only seeing the same page on a traffic exchange. It is also seeing the same page across all the traffic exchanges over and over again.

Redundancy will also give a huge indication of how your pages are being handled by the traffic exchange as well. If you are seeing the same page over and over again you can bet the house that when you have the hits assigned your page it is being displayed in the same fashion.

Redundancy Kills A Traffic Exchange!

Redundancy Kills A Traffic Exchange!

In my Traffic Exchange Exposed ranking newsletter I have scratched the surface of the redundancy factor with a couple of statistics listed in the “Others Content Shown To Me” (Click the image to see it).

In this section I show statistics about how many times URLs and Domains have been shown to me while surfing Traffic Exchanges. In other words, the redundancy factors.

If you look at the screen capture you will see the total URLs and Domains Shown to me. In this example, for Traffic Splash, there have been 732 URLs shown to me on 403 different domains. What this means is there are several URLs for each domain. The URLs may be duplicate affiliate links or the exact same URL shown multiple times.

Then, if you move down the columns you will see a better breakdown of the redundancy data. For example, in the URLs column on the left you will see 3.14% of the URLs (or about 23 of the 732 URLs) were actually shown to me 3 or more times. It also shows that 0.82% of the URLs (about 6 URLs) were shown to me 5 or more times. URLs shown to me 10 or more times equals 0.55% (about 5 URLs). And finally it shows that 0 URLs were shown to me 25 and 50 or more times.

In the Domain column the data indicates that 15.63% (62 Domains) have been shown to me 3 or more times. 6.7% (27 domains) of the domains have been shown to me 5 or more times. 2.48% (or 10 Domains) have shown to me 10 or more times. Then it falls off to 0.74% (3 domains) and 0.5% (2 domains) for the 25 and 50 or more times (respectively) displayed to me.

Traffic Splash (our redundancy factor example here) is listed in the #1 spot on the ranking list today. The redundancy factor for this traffic exchange is not that bad because it is a good Traffic Exchange. But, when you get into the lower third part of the over 130 traffic exchanges listed on the ranking list the redundancy factor gets really dismal!

I thought it would be fun to take this individual TE redundancy factor and apply it on a global basis to get a grander redundancy picture. And let me tell you folks, redundancy is happening on the global front in a massive way as well. I have reconfigured the software to track this data and will be including the reports here and eventually in more detail on the Traffic Exchange Exposed ranking list site. The data is to new as of right now to be able to do a drill down on it.

Please don’t get the idea you should not use a traffic exchange if it has a high redundancy factor. I am not trying to say that. What I am saying is more time should be spent on traffic exchanges that have a lower amount of redundancy. Alternatively, less time should be spent on the ones with the higher redundancy but there should be some time spent there.

Another aspect the redundancy factor shows us is if the purchase of page view credits or doing an upgrade is worth it or not. I mean, who in their right mind wants to waste their money on an exchange that will show its members the same page 50 or more times in a very short amount of time? I know I don’t! Do you? Well, maybe the hype masters will want you to do an upgrade so they can get paid for the JV effort. But, I’ll leave that one alone and let you figure that out. Trust me, you will figure it out in time.
